Is it time for a timing belt?
The timing belt is a vital part of your engine. Its provides a quiet, flexible connection between the camshaft and crankshaft to keep the valves opening and closing in sync with the movement of pistons.
Looseness and wear will allow the timing belt to slip and change valve timing, resulting in very poor peformance, a no-start condition or engine damage.
The vehicle owner’s manual will specify at what mileage the timing belt must be replaced. This can range from 60,000 miles to 105,000 miles, depending on the vehicle.
Timing belts fail without warning. In most cases the only protection is to change the belt at the recommended intervals. Changing the belt prior to failure is far less costly than the alternative.
