In 1979, the first Express Oil Change was opened by Jim Lunceford. Within five years, he had opened four company locations when the first franchisee location opened. Less than two decades later, the company dominated Alabama with more than fifty locations.

Watson and Brooks saw a tremendous future for the chain. In March 1996, they acquired the franchise corporation from Lunceford. They then launched an aggressive franchise expansion program in Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia. Express Oil Change continued to grow and expand over the next decade and make a name for itself as the preeminent automotive maintenance provider in the industry.

Currently with over 230 Express Oil Change stores and more than 75 tire stores across 15 states, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers is the leading automotive service provider in the south, leading the industry through excellence, innovation and growth.

By 1996, franchise partners Joe Watson and Ricky Brooks had developed fourteen franchise centers. As the chain’s largest franchisees, their operational efficiency, profitability and sales growth were used as benchmarks for franchised and corporate stores.

In 2013, Express Oil Change acquired Birmingham based Tire Engineers stores and was rebranded as Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers. After breaking into the tire store industry, in 2014 and 2015 Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers continued to expand with the acquisition of Epperly Tire, Savannah Tire, Upton Tire Pros, Trax Tires, Skid Marks Tire Pros, and Davis Tire.
