History of Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers

In 1979, Jim Lunceford opened the first Express Oil Change. Within five years, he'd opened four locations when the first franchise opened. Over the next 20 years, the company would dominate Alabama with more than 50 locations.

Watson and Brooks saw a tremendous future for the chain. In March 1996, the pair acquired the franchise corporation from Lunceford, then launched an aggressive franchise expansion program in Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia. Express Oil continued to grow and expand over the next decade, making a name for itself as the preeminent automotive maintenance provider in the industry.

Currently with 239 locations across 15 states, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers continues to lead the automotive service industry through excellence, innovation and growth.

By 1996, franchise partners Joe Watson and Ricky Brooks had developed 14 franchise locations. As the chain’s largest franchisees, their operational efficiency, profitability and sales growth were used as benchmarks for both franchise and corporate stores.

In 2013, Express Oil acquired Birmingham-based Tire Engineers, and rebranded to Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers. Since breaking into the tire industry, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers has continued to expand its footprint, acquiring several additional tire brands to include Trax Tires, Epperly Tire, Savannah Tire, Griffin Brothers, Upton Tire, Davis Tire, Skid Marks Tire Pros, OK Tire, Autco Tire, Topline Tires, and more.
